An Inventory, 2017-18
Inkjet prints, ceramic vases
An Inventory, “6151 Richmond Street” is a series inspired by the vases that decorate the set of the American sitcom The Golden Girls. The project attempts to catalogue and recreate the vases that appear throughout the show’s main set, Blanche Devereaux's house in Miami. As decoration, ceramics often serve to establish tone or setting, functioning as shorthand signifiers of class or taste. These half-visible set items are present to be understood but overlooked: even when dropped, smashed, or shot, their unscathed form may reappear in subsequent episodes. An Inventory channels both artifact and reproduction – traces of faded video in parallel with the space of our own domestic lives – to consider the voids and conflicts of our own identifications, of chosen family, and of intimacy.
